I also don't agree with the idea that auction prices are max

Plenty of people buy and sell trucks without anyone else knowing. I know collectors spend real money on something they want and sometimes they hunt down the best truck as the seller was not actively selling.

A shop that was restoring a 1957 Sweptside told me their client payed over $50,000 for the truck thinking it was properly restored and then paid the shop at least that much more to bring the truck up to snuff.

There are people out there that expect perfection and are willing to pay for it.

The real issue is condition. By high end show standards (Pebble Beach, etc) most Power Wagons that have been rebuilt and refurbished are not restored. They are nice rebuilds, or good drivers, etc. Show me a true 100 point PW that sold for $12,000 and I'll show you an ex owner crying in his beer over his 10s of thousands loss. This is not to knock anyone's efforts in bringing an old truck back to life, I've never owned anything that was more than made drive able, I'm just saying that if price is up for discussion not all trucks billed as restored are equal.

Eric
