For what it's worth I have a brush chipper and a stump grinder with Kohler V-2 motors. Bought them from a tree service guy who didn't take very good care of them along with a couple trucks and haven't used them much (used the chipper more than the grinder). They seemed to start and run easily when I first got them, despite an apparent lack of maintenance. The chipper developed a number of problems sitting out for several years, but I got it going. My impression is it's a decent engine, at least one step up from the cheapest small engines.
