Axles: If you want to keep the stock Power Wagon front axle, you can install a 3/4 ton WC rear axle which has a centered differential. You can install 4.89 gears in the PW and WC axles, which gives you a road speed of about 55 mph @2500 rpm with 9.00-16 tires. If you want to go faster than that, I would recommend installing Dana 60/70 axles and brakes. Others have done it. Once you start swapping axles and such, it is probably cheaper and safer (to drive) to simply re-cab a modern chassis with your PW sheet metal.
Transfer Case: You can us an NP 200 (stock), NP 201, or NP 205 transfer case with a centered rear axle. Or a NP 203 if you want full-time 4wd, but it's chain drive (somewhat weaker) rather than gear drive. To use the NP 200, just change out the parking brake drum with one from a WC 6x6 that has the u-joint yoke built into it.
Good luck!
