OK, so my 56 FFPW is fun to drive. I've had it for just over a year now, and I've had the pleasure of rebuilding the transmission, brakes, transfer case, cooling system, springs and clutch.
But... Since I got this truck, it has had this shake between 25 and 30 MPH. I had the tires balanced with no change. I checked steering linkage with no issues, put in new shocks, checked front bearings and just about gave up.
My hint should have been that after I drove it 15 miles or so it got much better..
So today I finally checked the air pressure again. All the tires were at 25 PSI, which to me seemed fine, especially since I drive it off road sometimes. I'm running the 9-16 Superlugs.
So, just for giggles I put in 50 PSI..
Guess what... No more shakes! My real hint came when I jacked up each tire and spun it. Clearly there was a flat spot on each tire... I guess with 25 PSI sitting on the ground it got a flat spot on each tire.
The bad news is I know better... When I went to Iraq in '04 I put my sports car on blocks and put 60 PSI in each tire... That never had vibration issues from 5 MPH to double any speed limit.
So this morning I put 50 PSI in each tire and went on my home depot run. Wow!!!! Problem solved!
So, you all probably know this, but advice to the new guys is check the air pressure in the tires! I can run 25 PSI in my 16 LT radials all day long, but not these tires!
Am I the only one???
