It's been strange because there hasn't been anything like a real front come through, and yet we also haven't been under any sort of prolonged high pressure (clear and cold). It's like a summer weather pattern on the coast, but 20 degrees older.
Still, our snowpack is running about 80% of average in N Idaho, close to 100% in the Cascades, so things are still looking okay. Fire season will mostly depend on whether June is rainy or dry. If June is dry, we're in a heap of trouble, but June has been very rainy the last several years, which has carried us through the rest of the summer with no problem, even if it doesn't rain at all in July, August, and September.
I worry mostly about the Midwest. Are they getting any rain or snow there yet? I know they had a terrible drought last year, and droughts tend to last for 5 years or more. Our corn and soybean production is going to be a disaster (time to quit ethanol fuel yet?) if they don't get a lot of precipitation soon.
