It just looked really bright because it came through right around dawn and the sun was nowhere near it. A magnesium flare looks really bright at night too. They think the meteor was an iron type. You know how hot iron is when you're burning it with a cutting torch. That's about how hot the meteor was. Basically what you're looking at is one big glob of welding slag splattering off from God's torch. No need to invoke nuclear theories.
