How do you remove a cam?

Yesterday someone suggested removing my cam for a sprocket hub repair on my 251. Can you explain to me in good detail how to do this. I understand how an engine operates but i have never removed a cam while leaving all the lifters, rods, and valves in place. I want to make this a easy as possible. I already have the front end off and the timing chain cover off.
