You're figuring all the right things, and your numbers are in the ballpark, but something must be off if you come up with 50K lbs line pull to shear a 40,000 psi pin.
But your mention of greasing the shear fitting reminds me that one should always put a shaft collar (can be crude and home-made on the sliding part of the winch drive line to ensure that if the shear pin breaks, the shaft won't pull completely out of its hole, fall down onto the frame or the ground, flop around, and do all kinds of damage to various things. And yes, the greasing is very important. I've disassembled many winch drivelines where even with the shear pin out, nothing would slide or turn at all, thanks to rust.
