I have had backpressure issues using the 'Y' fitting in the past. It helped if I used a special "Y" fitting that had a larger size orifice after the two lines combined. I eventually took took my remote reservoir off and tig welded two return line bungs to it and have both booster and P/S returns run separately into the reservoir. The feed line from the reservoir to the pump needs to be big and as vertical as possible, I would say a -12 at least. I did remove the canned ham reservoir from my pump and tig'ed a big bung to it as well for the feed line.
