It may try to turn the engine a little bit, if it's reasonably loose, but mostly an impact wrench works by inertia and the rotating mass of the engine is so much greater than the rotating mass of the innards of the impact wrench that as far as the engine is concerned, it's just giving it a light tap. The nut however, which is the connecting point of the two, is much lighter than the innards of the wrench and thus takes the full force of the impact. If you're concerned about the engine turning even a little bit keep an eye on it and block the ring gear with something like a big screwdriver or a crowbar to keep it from turning. Odds are good, though, that the nut will spin right off.
