No matter what. The pump has to have a return line so it can pump. If its pumps......where is it getting its new supply of oil from to pump out. Oil has to be sent back to the pump to be re-pumped.
Think...of a air pump. Seal the air intake and nothing comes out. The air intake is the same as a oil return. A pump has to have a constant supply to pump.
