After some more digging, I know that at least some Tract joints came into the 1970s... but even the folks at Dana Technical Support can't say for sure whether mid-70's Dana 70's from the front of Dodge trucks had Tractas or CVs... even with the BUILD number!
These tracta joints are simple but strong -- the question is, are they as strong as Spicer-style u-joints... and if broken, can you still get them as replacement parts?
