I have the exact problem in my '49. My favorite mechanic told me to use 50w oil. Now the pressure is 10 when hot. Therefor, I think the guage is accurate. My thought is that the oil pump is worn. I used to have a '37 chev that did the same thing, except it smoked like heck-that problem was rings. Let me know if you learn anything.
