Gordon, last month I put a little over 6,000
mile on in two and a half weeks. I have a '96
3500 w/4.10 gears and stock 5 speed trans. I pull a 20' flatbed that wieghs around 3,000# empty, which it was for too much of the trip.
The truck gets 20 mpg sans trailer, but I still carry 1,000# of topper and tools always. I get around 17-18 mpg with the trailer empty. I took a crew cab W200 from VPW to South Miami and averaged 13+ mpg. I brought a 44 Agri-Jeep and a 45 CJ-2A from Ohio to Denver and averaged 15 mpg. Terrain and head winds play a big role in fuel cosumption. I usually run cruise at 65-68 mph. I found no performance difference in the two different grades of fuel sold at most truck stops. Hope this helps! DAB
