The only trouble with what you're saying is that the 318 is set up for an automatic. The crankshaft most likely is not drilled to accept a pilot bearing. You might also run into some questions with engine balance as well ( can't remember if the late 318 was internal or external balance ). I would say find a 318 out of a truck that has a manual trans. Grab the whole motor from the fan to the flywheel. That way you've got all you need in the way of brackets etc.
My '64 W-200 has a 318 out of a '73? truck in it. The clutch assy. and bellhousing bolt right up. Mine originally had the old style 318 in it, but I don't think you'ld have any trouble doing it that way.
