There is no benefit to having either positive or negative ground. Car makers couldn't make up their minds about this and there was no standard. It was just another way to keep one make different from another.

Electronic devices (radios, cell phones, computers etc.) all expect negative ground however, and if you plan to mount a satellite dish on your WDX, you might have a problem. These devices forced the manufacturers to adopt a standard.
