I have been told the spicer 3053a is not a good option, large and heavy notch shifting. Requires a Sae2 bell housing and a Sae2-3 adapter ring from Pheonix. not sure if a sae 3 will work, but there has to be a reason the army did this combination. There is a lot of info on this if you search m-715 4bt.
The Chevy nv4500 is shorter that the dodge.
My breadtruck came with a Borg-warner t-19 4 speed. I kept it and have a short driveshaft in my carryall(that is not roadworthy yet). Novak conversions has a nice writeup on the t-18 and t-19. In my opinion the nv4500 mated to a transfercase is the best way to go if the budget allows.
the dodge setup is going to be the easiest to comeby.
