I won't wade into guessing how your switch and motor are hooked up, but I can assure you that you won't destroy either one if you accidentally hook it up wrong for a short time. So, don't be afraid to experiment. If it's a 6 volt motor on a 12 volt system, it will draw too much current, spin too fast, and overheat itself if you leave it hooked up to 12 volts for long. In my experience, an ignition ballast resistor, which is about 1 ohm, turns out to be just right for running a 6 volt heater on a 12 volt system. There's no need to get fancier than that with a heater fan. You'd hook it in upstream of your hi/lo switch. Otherwise, just play around with it as others have suggested until it works right. Best to do this with switch and motor out of the vehicle, using some spare battery, so that it's easy to change the leads around. By the way, plus and minus don't matter either.
