The army dropped the hypercycle multifuel 30 years ago because it didn't meet smog rules. These days, with urea injection and all, I don't think it would have a chance. We should also have small diesels for cars by now. They would be just as efficient as the gas/electric hybrids and way simpler, but again the EPA won't allow it.
