you make good points. i believe that an optimized diesel engine, unfettered by pollution controls and misc crap, is the best way to go. if it is kept simple and can take difft grades of fuel, even better. i have a friend that has a soviet jet fighter. he was a navy flier back in the day. he loves his jet because it was built to operate no matter what, on whatever fuel was available. it is robust and simple to operate and maintain. that is the goal in my eyes. keep is simple and keep it running, no matter what.
id like to build some sort of exotic power plant, just to do it. a stirling engine powering a golf cart or small skiff? a steam powered pickup? why not??
