and one way or the other it will have a good filter where it was born with one as well. The one I have now isn't hurt and it's rubber still is in good shape.

These seemingly came only with a sock on the pickup tube and the paper element above the injection pump. I don't think adding on a serious pre-filter with see through separator/drain will be a bad thing.
