Modern Style Door Latch?

Done a bit of research and didn't find much on this. One post mentioned that there may have been a change around '66 when they went to a modern style door mechanism in the FF. Is this true? If so, is a bolt on upgrade?

Has anyone changed out the door latch mechanisms for a modern style catch?
