The only real problem with the First Gens is the Dodge factor. I mean that was Dodge at its lowest point & poorest quality product. That said, it's the best engine ever put in a truck except maybe the second gen 94-98 Cummins which was identical except the P7100 pump.
Dodge wiring sucked, their transmissions sucked & still do & the body shook itself apart...what was left of it after the rust got done, that is.
Taking that all into account...what other trucks do you see running around with a million miles on them & never had the engine apart? Not 24 valves & definitely not 3rd & 4th Gens...they rarely make 200K.
I guess I'm partial because I love the old styling but if you have a few tools onboard, you can always limp home with a First Gen Cummins.
They're going to be a collectors item Mac...you'll see :)
