...on the shift rail. Seems like plain rope. This is basically a static seal since the shift rail doesn't rotate like the output shaft. An old mechanic recommended yarn, felt, or oakum soaked with graphite. I picked up some oakum at a plumbing supply house. It's braided and easily seperates to different size strands.
