The unspoken story here is that even when you donate a vehicle or a piece of equipment to a museum, there's no guarantee that they will love it and cherish it forever. Most museums are short on space and shorter on money. Vehicles often stand a better chance of being preserved in private collections, even though they're less accessible to the public.
