First I do not recall the source but it may be Randy's ring and pinion or my old parts books . But there is a % difference that is small enough to be ok on the dirt but not on pavement .
Some factory vehicles came with 4.10s on one end and 4.11 on the other .
The other combo was 4.88 and 4.89 there was a third combo that I do not recall .
Also there is a inconsistency about what gears went where .
Lots of room here for speculation , myth creation and good discussion and i have had one know it all have a hissy fit saying that missmatched gears were never issued from the factory because the drivetrain would blow up .
Not from this thread - everyone here is too smart for that .
