I built a custom 42 gal tank with a step in it that is mounted between the frame rails and goes under the rear cross member about 8 inches but still clears the rear diff. Joe posted a pic of it a few forums ago. Used a flatfender filler neck behind the rear drivers fender, works great. It hangs down about 4-5 inches but with the rear bumper I built it all looks in proportion.
