Not exactly what you're looking for, and maybe too high-tech, but I got one of these about a year ago and use it for everything -- flashlight, headlamp, and trouble light. All the miners are using these new LED cap lamps nowadays. The "bright" mode has a really good spotlight beam that will light up the trees on the far side of the valley at night. Totally water-proof and self-contained. I've dropped it a few times and it hasn't broken. Has an indicator for how much charge is left. Comes with the plug-in charger. Required by law (MSHA) to run for 2 full shifts on a single charge. It's meant to clip on a hard hat. I have a nylon web strap I clip it onto when I use it as a head lamp. It's not very comfortable that way, but it does the job. I basically got tired of head lamps that are dim and/or run their batteries down in an hour or two.
They're not cheap, though. I think I paid $85 for mine locally.
