You could try some heat on the metal part, a paint stripping heater would be good, don't think a hair dryer would do - if you use a butane torch be careful not to heat the glass suddenly. Once the metal is just at the too hot to handle without gloves stage, let the heat soak through for a few minutes and apply steady pressure. Sometimes they come easily sometimes hard work. Good luck.
