Keeping your fuel from gelling is paramount, next is heating the air intake or engine block. I have had good luck with Power Service products and use the white bottle Power Service in all my diesels. If there is going to be a bad cold snap I use the Power Service 911 in the red bottle. I assume you don't have access to electricity out where you hunt. There is a diesel fired coolant heater unit by Webasto. I have used it in several vehicles and it works well, albeit expensive.
