Ron,
The M37 escutcheon is spring loaded. It has the rounded part and a straight collar. The straight collar will slide back into the rounded part. I have a trim removal tool I got from the local parts house, it is just a thin steel piece with a stepped notch. I slide it between the back side of the handle or crank and push it towards the door. The pin is not a roll pin, it is just a thin steel rod. It will slip right out with another thin rod, and drop onto the floor and roll into some dark recess. If someone has put in a roll pin you will need to drive it out but the correct pin is a fairly loose fit. It is hald in with the spring pressure from the escutcheon.
