I think the flat spot is due to the new replacement accelerator pump piston sticking in the bore since it is bigger than the original. My trucks with rebuilt carbs have this problem. Apparently, you should reuse the original piston. Maybe you still have it? If not, you may be able slightly hone the new piston so it doesn't stick in the bore. Others more knowledgable than me will weigh in here. I just blip the accelerator off of idle to keep it from stalling.
