The M101 trailer did have two other axles added in it's long career. The one you might have seen was the one set up with the rims that would go with the CUCV series of trucks (chevy trucks), and you are correct, they did have a M101 trailer set up for the HUMMER rims also until that came out with the M1101 trailers.
I have the M101 trailers with the CUCV axle and the one with the HUMMER axle, I had one with the Dodge axle, but it was stolen in March.
