If the belt was bad, it may have jumped time, and might be one of those engiens that bends valves when it does. Side betn valves may be stuck open due to bent stems. Valves stuck open wont move because they are already open.

No wait, I see that teh valves one the timing belt end move, valves on the other end don't? Broken cam shaft.
