It is in our best interests to have been importing oil for so many years. There are a few great military minds that have foreseen the future that we are now facing and they sleep well at night; confident in our unique economic and natural resource disposition.
The amount of foresight and planning that got us into what people call a "mess" is nearly unfathomable. I wouldn't trade our current oil situation for that of any other nation on Earth.
