I removed my running boards yesterday and noticed for the first time that they are joined differently on the passenger's side vs. the driver's side.
One had a rectangular plate that straddled both boards with hex head bolts with two bar stock pieces underneath (one on each board) as a sandwich for extra strength.
The other had bar stock that followed the outside contour of the board (wrapped the outside edge) with stock looking lag bolts through it. Nothing underneath for extra support, just washers and nuts.
So, how were the two piece (front & rear) running boards (bolted?) together from the factory? Were they ever welded from the factory?
