Okay, obviously you are not fully immersed in the correct PW mindset yet. What it comes down to is this. If however they built it was good enough for real men in 1955, it's good enough for you today. That means you get a manual choke, a crash box tranny, vacuum wipers, a non-collapsible steering column, and a mechanical fuel pump. Vapor lock is avoided by making sure the heat shield (usually missing) is in place, the fuel line is properly routed, and the heat riser is set to "summer" if you're in a hot place. Lots of PWs worked in the desert back then and didn't vapor lock. The one mod you're allowed to make is to rebuild the MECHANICAL fuel pump using alcohol-resistant rubber, since NOS 1955 gasoline is getting scarce.
