But on an M35, the end curtains go on first and are lashed to the end bows by a one long rope that goes through each hole in the end curtain and around the bow each time. Then the top canvas is put on and lashed down to cleats on the bed sides via separate, short, permanently-attached ropes. The top is drawn in tight at the end by a rope that goes through a sewn pocket all along the end of the curtain. There is a special knot for attaching the ropes to the funny-shaped cleats on the bed. It's easy to tie and easy to untie. Unfortunately I've forgotten how to do it, so I just tie them on any old way.
