I should welcome you to Long Island. I'm a third generation Long Islander. I've seen it go from a semi-rural, agricultural, live-and-let live community, to a place where you're not allowed to park your truck on the street after 10 PM.
As for restrictions on the use of your property; I was recently cited by a code enforcement officer for having 'outside storage'. Was told all that is allowed is lawn furniture and a gas grille...Pay your 10K per year property tax but don't put anything on it.
