I might add that much modern solder has no lead in it, which makes it even more prone to cracking. As long as it's not for drinking water, I stick with 50/50 tin/lead solder rather than the new 95/5 tin/silver stuff. Lead is cheaper than silver too, but the main thing is it's less likely to crack. Same with electronics, only there we use 63/37 tin/lead because it's runnier.
