6v horn on 12v?

What happens to a 6 v horn on a 12 v converted truck? Will the horn survive (like a starter) or burn up like a light bulb? Do I run the power through a 6 v resistor? I have an original 6v long horn that I would like to keep. Thanks for the comments.
