canister on side that held flares

my power wagon has/had a canister that looks like a 1pound coffee can it was mountde just below cowl lite on drivers side. i think there was 3 separate cans that were filled with kerosene. my problem is when i removed them from the side they literally fell apart does anyone know if these were available from dodge or aftermarket when truck was new 1948. i would like to replace them if anyone knows if i could find them anywhere now used or new.. thanks jan
