I guess you gotta unroll the cable by hand first, at least on some models.I haven't been able to hand crank my 41 since I installed a MU5 winch- someday I'll remount it higher,like the later units.
Re: make your own, drill for drive pin in same plane as crank so it will lay flat in storage.
Re: Yanking your crank-only pull upwards to start, it's very awkwards otherwise.
re: timing hazard-old (model T era) cars used a hand operated advance,P.W.'s are automatic and you shouldn't have many broken wrists, just don't use a death grip,firmly pull up don't try to push down (maybe that needs a thumb?)
