brake line & vent line ???

what is the effect if any (besides fording ability) if i plug the vent line on my m-37 gas tank with an inverted flare plug. i am redoing the brakes on the truck. while replacing the rusted brake lines, i am replacing the rotten fuel lines. the vent line goes up to the carb elbow. if i leave the gas cap in the vented position, will that be enough venting to keep the truck fuel supply flowing??? thanks
