I was looking in one of my Canadian Military Vehicle reference books and came across some interesting WWII notes. Chrysler Corporation of CANADA produced over 100,000 military trucks for the Canadian and British governments. The photos show both the early closed cab as well as the later open cab WC's with a few notable differences:
ALL Canadian built trucks were equiped with the Longer 236.6 cu.in. Canadian patern engine.( I don't think the Canadian company ever built the "short" engines, only the longer 251/265 type)
All trucks for British /overseas service were equiped with right hand drive (any Canadian made vehicles of the period usually have frame and body holes to allow either steering layout)
all vehicles delivered with British War Office designed wheels. This makes the hubs different as well, because the bolt pattern is Much larger than normal
Rear bodies on the 3/4 ton series (designated D 3/4 APT T236) were made narrower to allow for air transportation. Other bodies were built to standardised Canadian/British patterns on the early models
What all this means, is that somewhere out there, are some really "different" vintage WC's that a 265 is a Bolt In replacement for.
I haven't seen any of them up here, and the book states that most were shipped overseas. Any body found one of them??? I will be scanning some of the photo's from the book and will send them in here if anyone is interested. J.V.L.
