Kerosene used to be used for medicinal purposes. I can see why. It seems to help heal cuts and scrapes on the hands. When I was a kid some 45 years ago, and if I stepped on a nail, kerosene was the first thing my grandparents put on it. Petroleum jelly would probably fall into this category too, along with Petrolatum, paraffin, white mineral oil, etc.
