Welding makes for warping. Plus mig means grinding down the excess bead. Try some solder and a propane torch? Don't heat to red hot, just get hot enough for solder to flow.
Or back in you neighborhood, swap meets, garage sales, or flea markets might have the old hunk of copper on a steel handle, to heat with a torch.
Or just let the bondo squirt through the holes. No warpage that way either.
