Thanks everyone. I figured heating red hot would be the trick, but now I know. I decided since I only needed 3' of 6" x 1/4" flat bar, I just bought a piece. It's a spare tire carrier for my 18' flat bed trailer and I don't want any risks of bad welds on a piece of weird steel. So I went with a new, shiny piece of Chinese stuff. Ha Ha
