So hardness of steel is measured on the Rockwell scale with a hardness tester. Certain tools are hardened, and getting the "hardness" of a tool or part correct is critical. Too hard and it will break. Not hard enough and it will bend or bearings etc may mark it.
My suggestion though is watch out if you really have hardened steel. It is harder to weld right, and being brittle may fail in your application if it is stressed or bend too much.
