Gerstenslager ambulance question

My Gerstenslager ambulance has some rust on the rear doors and the rear windows and seals are out. Is that plywood that I spy sandwiched between the door skins? Looks like there are bolts that run up one side of each door and tack welds on the other. Has anyone taken these apart to replace the wood, if that is in fact wood?
